A note for people who are interested in setting up their own hosts. Software for interfacing a host with the Forklore server is being developed. It will be made available with other instructions and resources for how to set up a host when plans are completed.

What is this phonebook?

This a phonebook of registered hosts (Forklore answering machines) accessing the Forklore repository. If a host has online status, it is ready to recieve a call. If it's status is busy, it is currently serving a caller.

What are hosts?

Hosts are computers turned into Forklore answering machines that serve as the interface between the Forklore repository and callers dialing in on a telephone. A host is dedicated to a telephone line and serves selected projects to callers using the IVR model (interactive voice response) which utilizes the DTMF standard (numerical keypad input for selecting options). A host can be set up in any number of ways, using any combination of software/hardware solutions. Forklore provides software for interfacing with the Forklore server and the processing of caller selections, as well as other resources and instructions for interfacing with the public telephone network or VoIP.
